Thank you for sharing this history. It's a lot to process. my cousin was an AVG Flying Tiger in 1941-1942 so I have a vague understanding of what was happening in that time period in China and Burma. Now that I'm researching the history of an American who was a Japanese POW for 3 years, understanding more of the context of what was happening in this area is important.

Thanks for your comments Jennifer. I've been thinking about doing a post about the Flying Tigers. Did your cousin keep a diary or write a memoir?

Hi Paul,

Yes he kept a diary and I published it in my book "Stories of the Lost". Robert Brouk was my Tiger. Sadly after the Tigers disbanded in July 1942 he returned to Chicago, met Virginia Scharer and then rejoined the Air Corps. They married in Nov 1942 and three weeks later on 19 Dec 1942, she watched him die in a plane crash as he trained pilots. Ginny was a widow at 20 years old after 3 weeks of marriage. I wrote her story in "The Tiger's Widow". She took up Robert's fight a few months later when she turned 21 and joined the WAC and ended up in Egypt. She's 102 now.
